Weaving Knowing Knowledge Hub

Agency: Command Base

Inspired by insights and recommendations shared by Indigenous community representatives. Weaving Knowledges wanted to create a respectful online platform for learning, knowledge sharing, collaborating, and capacity building for Indigenous and non-Indigenous interested in weaving knowledge systems in their environmental work.

A respectful environment

It was important to the client that the website is a safe and respectful environment for visitors and contributors. I designed a 'Responsibilities of the Reader' pop-up that includes a list of rules for the website. The user must agree to the responsibilities before entering the website.

My Website Process

Step 1: Initial Meeting

I invite all website project team members to the initial meeting to ask any questions. We will discuss exisiting branding, additional needs, ideas, goals and next steps.

Step 2: Site Map

I identify pages (like a contents table), page hierarchy and unique pages. I recommend which pages to keep and remove and may restructure navigation to improve user experience (UX).

Step 3: Wireframes

A wireframe is like a blueprint for a house. I create wireframes for each unique page to illustrate how the content and functionality will be laid out on a page and consider user needs and journeys.

Step 4: Design

I create a user friendly, visually appealling website using the approved site map and wireframes as my guide and a combination of aesthetic and functional elements — such as colors, fonts and graphics.
